No, there is no special category of recipients for missed Zakat payments.

The same individuals who are eligible to receive regular Zakat should also receive missed Zakat. When making up for unpaid Zakat, you should distribute it as you would have if it had been paid on time.

Who Can Receive Missed Zakat?

According to the Qur’an (9:60), Zakat, whether timely or delayed, must go into the following Masarif-e-Zakat.

  • The Poor (Al-Fuqara) – Those who lack financial means to meet their essential needs.
  • The Needy (Al-Masakin) – Individuals experiencing financial difficulties but may not openly ask for help.
  • Zakat Administrators – Those appointed to collect and distribute Zakat.
  • New Muslims (Mu’allafatu Qulubuhum) – Converts to Islam who may require support in their new faith.
  • Slaves Seeking Freedom – Those striving to gain their independence from bondage.
  • Debtors (Gharimin) – People struggling with legitimate debts.
  • In the Cause of Allah (Fi Sabilillah) – Those involved in efforts that serve Islam, such as charity and humanitarian work.
  • Stranded Travelers (Ibnus Sabil) – Individuals away from home without financial means.

How to Fulfill Missed Zakat

  • Calculate the amount of unpaid Zakat from previous years.
  • Ensure proper distribution to the eligible recipients.

Missed Zakat remains a responsibility until paid, and its proper disbursement ensures it fulfills its intended purpose.

And Allah knows best!
