On a bright, sunny winter day, the atmosphere of Pakistan Sweet Home (PSH) buzzed with excitement as special guests arrived. The director and senior leadership team of the World Bank, accompanied by their families and children, visited PSH to spend time with our children.
The day began with a heartfelt introduction from Zamurrad Khan (Hilal-e-Imtiaz), who warmly welcomed the guests and introduced our children. Lovingly referred to as the angels and fairies of PSH, our children greeted the visitors with smiles and excitement.
The day kicked off with a series of friendly matches, bringing out the competitive spirit and camaraderie between our children and visitors. Exciting games of volleyball, football, and table tennis filled the grounds with laughter and cheer.
The tug of war, a playful highlight, united everyone in a memorable display of teamwork and strength. At the end of the matches, prizes were distributed among the winners, adding a layer of celebration to the already lively atmosphere. It wasn’t just about sports—it was about building connections that transcended language and culture.
After the games, the focus shifted to the food stalls, where the World Bank leadership eagerly participated in serving snacks to our children. The aroma of delicious treats filled the air as the children gathered with wide-eyed anticipation and smiles. For many, it wasn’t just about the snacks—it was about the warmth and attention they received, making them feel cherished and valued.
As the day progressed, heartwarming conversations unfolded between the visitors and our angels and fairies. The guests listened attentively as our children shared their dreams and aspirations.
Little Ayesha, her eyes filled with wonder, asked the World Bank director,
“Do you visit other children like us?”
The member of the World Bank with a kind smile, replied,
“Yes, Ayesha. But today, I’m here just for you. I want you to know the world cares for you, and your future matters.”
Ayesha’s face lit up as she proudly said,
“I want to be a doctor when I grow up.”
Bilal, standing nearby, confidently declared,
“I want to be an engineer and build big buildings like the ones I see in the city. Can I do that?”
Encouraging him, the visitors replied,
“Of course, Bilal. With your dedication, you can achieve anything. We believe in you.”
Each child’s story was met with genuine encouragement, creating moments of hope and inspiration. These conversations were a testament to the powerful message that our children are not alone in their journey.
Christina Wieser, a senior economist and member of the World Bank team, shared her reflections on the visit:
“My name is Christina, and we’re here at Pakistan Sweet Home today for a fun race. We decided to make use of the fantastic facilities at Pakistan Sweet Home to play football, table tennis, and tug of war. It has been such an amazing experience, and we’re so touched by the warm welcome we received. Everyone here greets us with a smile, making us feel right at home.
Pakistan Sweet Home is doing an incredible job. Not only do they provide education, but they also offer amazing facilities for the children to play and engage in fun hobbies. Both boys and girls have the opportunity to enjoy their spare time while learning valuable skills they can carry with them for life. It’s truly heartwarming to see what Pakistan Sweet Home has accomplished in creating such a nurturing environment.”
The visit ended with a shared sense of connection and understanding. The families of the World Bank leadership team and our children bid farewell, knowing this day marked the beginning of a lasting bond. The children of PSH are not only the future of Pakistan but of the world, and this visit reaffirmed the commitment to support their dreams and aspirations.
