Every year in Pakistan, approximately 5,000 children are diagnosed with thalassemia, a severe and life-threatening condition. This devastating diagnosis occurs when two individuals with minor thalassemia traits marry, giving their child a 25% chance of inheriting the disease.

Despite the existing guidelines recommending pre-marital tests for thalassemia, most Pakistanis do not undergo this testing due to a lack of education and awareness about the condition, as well as limited access to resources. The lack of serious attention and action to tackle this problem, both by the government and individuals, has led to an increase in the number of children born with thalassemia who need regular blood transfusions.

In response to this crisis, CEO Zamurrad Khan launched the Papa Jani Blood Bank Project under Pakistan Sweet Home in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project began with just one ambulance, two nurses, and two dispensers, aiming to address the urgent blood shortage exacerbated by the pandemic.

This showed his determination to tackle the blood shortage during the pandemic with whatever resources were at hand. This initiative became a beacon of hope for countless children in Rawalpindi/Islamabad battling not only thalassemia but also Hemophilia, Blood Cancer, Dengue, and other blood-related emergencies.

"I believe Allah has placed compassion for children in my heart and inspired me to start this project. These innocent children require regular blood transfusions, and there isn't enough support. My people have always trusted me, and I was confident that they would support me in raising awareness and donating blood for the deserving children."   - Zamurrad Khan (Hilal-e-Imtiaz)

The project quickly grew, organizing 30 to 35 blood donation camps monthly in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. These camps are held at various locations, including universities, colleges, and roadside sites, to ensure easy access for the public. This strategic approach helps maximize the reach and impact of the blood donation efforts, ensuring that the lifesaving mission can touch as many lives as possible.

The core mission of the Pakistan Sweet Home Blood Bank Project is to support children in combating blood disorders. These children often need regular blood transfusions to survive, sometimes up to two per month. By collecting and distributing blood, the project has already saved countless lives, providing critical support when it is needed most.

Since its inception, the project has collected 20,000 blood bags and organized 550 blood camps. Each blood bag has the potential to save three lives by providing essential components such as platelets, Red Cell Count (RCC), and Hemoglobin. This means that each donation is a lifeline for multiple patients in dire need.
